Given the inbuilt advantages for the incumbent party it does not make any sense to run as the opposite party or a third party.

However, there is a pathway to victory for a moderate candidate of the same party as the incumbent as long as there isn’t a member of the opposite party running.

If you want to serve your community you should not be afraid of running for office.

Things to remember:

California Assembly and Senate races are voter nominated, not party nominated.

In order to appear on the ballot a candidate needs 40 signatures from registered voters from any party. Party affiliation is declared by the candidate after they have been nominated by the voters.

Money does not matter.

There is no correlation between dollars spent and votes received.
